Rays Drop Opener To Angels

The Los Angeles Angels (55-58) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (55-59) 5-1 on Monday night in Anaheim. It was the second straight loss for the Rays, who dropped the first game of a four-city, twelve-game road trip through the West Coast.

Junior Caminero got the Rays on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly, but that would be the only offense of the day for Tampa Bay. The Angels got two runs in the second and third to take control of the game, before adding a single run in the sixth for insurance.

Adrian Houser (6-3, 2.54) lost his Rays debut, allowing five earned runs on eleven hits in five and two-third innings of work. Yusei Kikuchi (5-7, 3.22) got the win for the Angels, allowing just one earned run in six innings of work.

The Rays will look to bounce back in the middle game of the three-game series on Tuesday night. Ryan Pepiot (6-9, 3.80) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Jose Soriano (7-8, 3.65) for the Angels. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 9:38 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 9:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
