Rays Take Opener From Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (54-53) defeated the New York Yankees (57-49) 4-2 on Monday night in the Bronx. With the win, the Rays have snapped their four-game losing streak.

Junior Caminero hit a two-run homer in the first, but the Yankees answered with two in the bottom of the first to tie the game 2-2. The Rays got the lead back in the fifth inning when Josh Lowe had a RBI single, then added an insurance run in the eighth thanks to a sacrifice fly from Yandy Diaz.

Drew Rasmussen (8-5, 2.96) got the start and allowed two earned runs on four hits in five innings of work in which he struck out five and walked two. Pete Fairbanks got the last four outs to earn his 18th save.

The Rays will now meet the Yankees in the second game of the four game series coming up on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 PM - pregame coverage begins with the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
