Rays Blank Royals To Win Series

The Tampa Bay Rays (45-35) defeated the Kansas City Royals (38-42) 3-0 on Wednesday night in Kansas City. With the win, the Rays have now won the series against the Royals and will go for the sweep on Thursday.

The Rays got all the offense in this game in the second inning - after Jose Caballero drove in a run to make it 1-0 on a single, Josh Lowe scored on a wild pitch from Michael Wacha. Danny Jansen drove in the third run on a sacrifice bunt to make it 3-0.

Drew Rasmussen (7-5, 2.45) pitched five shutout innings in which he allowed two hits while striking out five and walking two. Pete Fairbanks earned his 14th save of the season after working a hitless bottom of the ninth inning.

The Rays now look to sweep the Royals in the series finale coming up on Thursday afternoon. Shane Baz (7-3, 4.97) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Michael Lorenzen (4-7, 4.81) for Kansas City.
