Liam Payne's friend, Roger Nores, recently filed to dismiss his defamation lawsuit against the late star's father, Geoff Payne.
According to People, the lawsuit, filed earlier this year, accused Geoff of making "false" statements regarding Nores' involvement in Payne's death.
Nores, present with the "Strip That Down" hitmaker in the days leading up to his fatal fall off a third-story balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last October, was charged with manslaughter in 2024.
Charges against Nores and two hotel employees were dropped in February 2025 as it was determined there was "nothing the trio could have done to save Liam."
The defamation lawsuit against Liam's father (obtained by People) claimed that Nores "did not have a legal duty to Liam" and that they were simply good friends. Payne's estate responded to the lawsuit with the following:
"The Estate could not take this matter more seriously. It has therefore taken the decision to support [Geoff] in this matter. [Geoff] denies, in the strongest possible terms, that he has defamed or otherwise caused any harm to your client (in the manner set out by your correspondence of 8 January 2025 or otherwise)," the document read.
The 31-year-old "Teardrops" singer was laid to rest in November during an intimate ceremony that saw One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, girlfriend Kate Cassidy, 7-year-old son Bear, parents Karen and Geoff, and sisters Nicola and Ruth.
