Ester Dean has apologized for her role in Keri Hilson's song that contains shots aimed at Beyoncé.

Following Keri Hilson's appearance on The Breakfast Club on Wednesday, April 9, the accomplished singer-songwriter took to Instagram and took accountability for writing a problematic verse for the remix of Hilson's hit single "Turnin' Me On" in 2009. Dean wrote Hilson's verse in which she sang, "Your vision cloudy if you think that you're the best/You can dance, she can sing/But she need to move it to the left, left/She need to go have some babies/She needs to sit down, she fake/Them other chicks ain't even worth my time to talk about."

"I submitted a lot of verses for that remix — one got picked, and it was co-written with Keri," Dean wrote. "Looking back, it was childish and didn't age well. I see how it hurt people, especially women, and I take full accountability."

"I've worked with and supported many women since, but that doesn't erase the moment," she continued. "I'm sorry for my part in it. Growth is real, and so is this apology."

Ester Dean penned the apology after confirming she was the writer Hilson referred to in her interview on The Breakfast Club. During the conversation, Hilson explained the making of the song and ensured fans she did not write the controversial verse. She said her producer Polow Da Don recruited Dean to write the verse and essentially forced her to sing for the remix.

"I tried to fight him on it and I began writing my own," Hilson said. "That's what I did with my time there but he... I want to be careful with the word I use... it was quite forceful, you know what I mean? In an executive artist way only... involving others and kinda of threatening my career in a real sense because my album wasn't out yet so it was like 'You're not coming out if you don't do this.' And the mistake that I made was not continuing to fight but I was in tears and I was adamant that I did not want to do that."
