DeSantis Sued By Palestinian Student Group Over Ban

TAMPA -- A chapter of the group Students for Justice in Palestine is suing Governor Ron DeSantis and state university chancellor Ray Rodrigues, after an order kicking the group off campus.

The group's attorney, Omar Saleh with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, says the state is singling it out for its viewpoint.

The SJP chapter at the University of South Florida insists it has no formal ties to the SJP national organization that claimed to be part of the deadly Hamas-led operation in Israel October 7th. That declaration, made in a "toolkit," led to the move by Rodrigues to deactivate SJP groups at the University of South Florida and other schools in the state system. The lawsuit is asking for an injunction against the group's deactivation, which has been put on hold.
