Tampa Judge Decides Fate of Half-Sister's Suit Against Meghan Markle

TAMPA -- A Tampa federal judge is holding a hearing Wednesday afternoon to decide whether to allow a defamation suit against Meghan Markle by her half-sister to go forward.

Samantha Markle claims the Duchess of Sussex defamed her by telling Oprah Winfrey she grew up as an only child.

If Judge Charlene Honeywell allows the case to go forward, Meghan Markle could be required to turn over texts, emails and other private messages as part of discovery.

Attorneys for the duchess have filed a motion to dismiss the complaint. The hearing takes place at 1:30 p.m. at the Sam Gibbons courthouse in Tampa.
